First Day of School

Never Take Mister Teddy to School is Book 2 of The Never Stories Children’s Book Series.  It is written by Rivka Simons & Maurice DeFalco Stuckey, and illustrated by Richard Rodriguez. Never Take Mister Teddy to Schoolis the second adventure of Carl and Jessica.  In this book, Carl and Jessica feel the stress of the first day of school.

 

Emotional Support Stuffed Animal

As the first day of schools draws nearer, Carl tells Jessica he is bringing his teddy bear, ‘Mister Teddy’ with him to school.  Mister Teddy is Carl’s emotional support stuffed animal.  Jessica tells Carl not to take Mister Teddy to school.  Jessica wants to be a big girl.  She thinks the other children will see Mister Teddy and think she and Carl are babies.  All kids want to be liked.  Jessica feels ready for school.  She does not want other children to poke fun at her and Carl.  Carl cannot be swayed.  He is bringing Mister Teddy to school.

 

The first day of school arrives.  Jessica tells her Daddy she does not want to walk to school with Carl and his Mom.  Jessica tells her Daddy about Mister Teddy, Carl’s emotional support stuffed animal.  Jessica’s Daddy tells Jessica that Carl has a case of ‘first day jitters.’  Daddy tells Jessica that Carl needs a good friend.  Jessica wants to be a good friend to Carl.

 

When Carl and his Mom come by Jessica’s house, Jessica sees Carl has Mister Teddy.  Jessica thinks it over.  She wants to be a good friend.  She elects to walk with Carl to school.  Carl and Jessica start their walk to school with Mister Teddy.

 

Jessica and Carl stop to talk to Miss Millie, the Crossing Guard.  Miss Millie thinks that Carl should not take Mister Teddy to school.  Carl’s Mom explains to Miss Millie that children are allowed emotional support stuffed animals.  Carl’s Mom tells Carl that he must be the one to decide if he wants to take Mister Teddy to school.  Carl knows he has a decision to make.

 

Carl and Jessica pass the Barber Salon.  The children talk to Juan the Barber and Miss Wanda Li.  Both Juan the Barber and Miss Wanda Li think that Carl should not take Mister Teddy to school.  Carl’s Mom tells them Carl is going to decide when he gets to school.

 

Carl and Jessica stop by the newsstand to say ‘hello’ to Mr. Soul Bunny.  Mr. Soul Bunny does not think Carl should take Mister Teddy to school.  Carl’s Mom reminds all present thatCarlwilldecide if Mister Teddy goes to school.
