Never Try to Take a Ball Away from Ken

Never Try to Take a Ball Away from Ken is about a child named, “Kenley”, born a girl, who identifies as “Ken”, a boy.  In that way, Never Try to Take a Ball Away from Ken is a children’s transgender book.  It is just as much about being a good sport.  In that way, it is a children’s sports book.  More than that, Never Try to Take a Ball Away from Ken is a children’s acceptance book.  All children want to be accepted.  Carl and Jessica find out that Ken is only looking to fit in with the other boys.  Once the friends understand Ken’s reason for rough play, the friends show Ken they care.  The children want Ken to be his true self.

Ken excels in sports.  The children are in awe of Ken’s skills as an athlete.  Ken badly wants to be a star player.  Ken wants the crowd to cheer for him and call his name.  Carl, Jessica and Evan all agree that Ken plays too roughly.  The children do not like getting hurt.  Children remember pain.  They remember being hurt.  Every time the children play with Ken, one of them gets hurt.  It is not easy to find a sport Ken does not play.  Ken plays every sport.  Carl, Jessica and Evan do not like to play against Ken.  Evan does not like playing against or with Ken.  Ken hogs the ball.  Ken wants to make all of the plays.  He wants to do all of the scoring.  Ken never passes the ball to Carl, Jessica or Evan.  Ken does not pass the ball to any child less skilled.  Ken even plays the safer sports like flag football, roughly.   Carl and Jessica do not understand why Ken plays so hard.  In this third adventure of the adventures of Carl and Jessica, the children confront Ken.

In Book 3 of the Never Stories Children’s Book Series, readers may see why Ken is not always easy to like.  Carl, Jessica and Evan see Ken’s rough play as his biggest problem.  All the while, Ken’s problem is being a girl who identifies as a boy.  Once Carl, Jessica and Evan see the children’s transgender issues Ken faces, Carl and Jessica show Ken they care.  Evan supports Ken (while Mister Teddy supports Evan) in his honest, matter of fact way.

Never Try to Take a Ball Away from Ken is Book 3 of The Never Stories Children’s Book Series.  It is the third adventure in the adventures of Carl and Jessica.  It is written by Rivka Simons & Maurice DeFalco Stuckey, and illustrated by Richard Rodriguez.  This adventure can be considered a Children’s Transgender Book; a Children’s Sports Book and/or a Children’s Acceptance Book.  It is a book which covers all three topics.

All of the books in The Never Stories Children’s Book Series teach caring and friendship.  All of the books written by Rivka Simons & Maurice DeFalco Stuckey have a moral message.  Some topics are light and fun like you will find in a Children’s Sports Book.  Some topics are a bit more intense like in a Children’s Acceptance Book.  Some topics are hard to talk about.  With those topics, you might need a Children’s Transgender Book.

In Never Try to Take a Ball Away from Ken, the children work through a conflict with a friend known as, Ken.  Carl, Jessica and Evan all agree that Ken plays too roughly.  Carl and Jessica see Ken’s rough play as the big problem with Ken.

Illustrations by Richard Rodriguez are funny and heartwarming.  Never Try to Take a Ball Away from Ken, Book 3 of The Never Stories Children’s Book Series, adventures of Carl and Jessica, opens up hard topics.
